Anonymous Video: Police Murder Dog Protecting… | Gather
As if the good people of the United States needed any more reason to hate the police. Activist organization Anonymous posted a video of a grisly scene in which a homeless seizure victim is left abandoned on the ground where he fell while the dog protecting him is murdered.

Baxter, an Australian shepherd, was fired at 6 times by police officers when he got through a malfunctioning gate. Robert Clements, his owner, had insisted that he would take the police officers to court, but said he wasn’t after the money. Instead:
“I want to expose the police for what they are doing. Why didn’t he use Mace on my dog? The simple answer is the cops are trigger happy.”
His 13-year-old son, Cameron, recited a speech to the county commissioners, “telling telling them he lost his brother and best friend when Baxter died.” But, of course, typically a dog is valued only at his or her market price, rather than a figure taking into account their true value.

The shocking image in social networks led the institution to investigate the case of animal abuse. Anyway clarified that the photograph had been published on the web when not entered yet responsible to police.

According to to Kathy Thomas, police officers attempting to serve her friend entered a yard — with a sign alerting them to the presence of dogs — and then shot all three dogs. Police said that they feared for their lives, and were doing what they had to.

When the Bullocks “returned home from a family member’s funeral,” they found three bullets and a note from the police asking them to call about their dog. According to the police, Jack had gotten out, and when two officers tried to catch up, he nipped one of them. One officer tazed the dog, and then shot him three times. As always: they acted according to procedure.
They Bullocks told their 3-year-old son that his dog ran away, and the boy has taken to barking for him, hoping that he’ll hear and come running.

A Vallejo police officer said he had “no choice but to shoot” when two dogs charged him. The officer had come to the home to investigate a case of identity theft filed by the occupant. The officer opened the front gate without asking permission, and when two dogs came around the corner–
“They were aggressive. He felt they were trying to attack him and, in his defense, he fired two rounds, striking the closest dog.”
Belle, an 11-year-old Labrador mix, died immediately. The owner of the dog said that she and her family are “big fans of the police” and that she “feel[s] a lot of compassion for the police officer who shot my dog.”
Her son might not feel the same:
“I’m really upset, because she’s dead now and she can’t come back. I’m mad at the police officer and sad because Belle is gone.”

Five years ago next week, we saved Pepito from the abattoir for the princely sum of €2,000.
He’d spent his working life pulling gypsy caravans full of tourists up and down the hills of the Dordogne. We thought he’d enjoy an easier life carrying suitcases for guests in the yurt camp we expected to open the following April.
We didn’t know he’d been put to work far too young, which permanently damaged his back. Or that he had arthritis in his legs. Or that, without a microchip or papers, he should have been given away or sold for his meat value of €800. And we couldn’t have imagined it would be years before the campsite was finally open.
We only knew that we wanted a working horse instead of a tractor and Pepito came along at the right time.

Internet-Zensur in Russland: Auch Anonymisierungsdienste, Proxy-Server und VPNs werden verboten
In Russland soll die Umgehung der Internet-Zensur verboten werden. Das berichtet Reporter ohne Grenzen unter Berufung auf einen neues Gesetz in der Duma. Wer Anonymisierungsdienste, Proxy-Server oder Virtual Private Networks nutzt, muss mit dem Abklemmen des Internet-Anschlusses und hohen Geldstrafen rechnen.
Letzte Woche berichteten wir über das neue Gesetz zur Internet-Zensur in Russland und Beispiele gesperrter Seiten. Reporter ohne Grenzen weist auf einen weiteren Punkt hin:
Amendments to the child-protection law had barely been put in place last July when the Duma (the lower house of the Russian parliament) decided to add the prohibitions on anonymizer and filter- bypass tools (proxies, VPN). According to the bill to amend the information law, filed on 21 September, internet users who continue to use these methods would face penalties ranging from blocking of their internet access to heavy fines.
Kevin Rothrock schildert bei Global Voices das Verfahren:
The law would create a registry (or “blacklist”) of any online materials containing illegal information relevant to children (specifically child pornography, drug paraphernalia, and instructions about self-harm). Once a website appeared on the list, the site’s hosting-provider would have 24 hours to notify the site-owner, who must then delete the offending data. If the owner fails to act, the hosting-provider is required to shut down or delete the site itself. In the event that the hosting-provider fails or refuses to act, it joins the registry and then web-providers must cut off access to that entire hosting-provider. Anyone included on the blacklist then has three months to appeal the decision in court.
Auf der Webseite zapret-info.gov.ru können User nachgucken, ob eine bestimmte Domain, IP oder URL auf der Sperrliste ist. Eine komplette Sperrliste soll es eigentlich nicht geben, jedoch dürfte das Crawlen nicht zu lange dauern.
Das Gesetz geht jedoch nicht nur auf Putins Partei Einiges Russland zurück, auch Oppositions-Politiker der Partei Gerechtes Russland sind dafür. Deren Duma-Abgeordnete Elena Mizulina sagte:
Niemand außer Pädophile und Drogenbosse hat irgendetwas vor diesem Gesetz zu befürchten.
Das war im Juli. Mit Inkrafttreten des Gesetzes Anfang November zeigte sich das ganze Ausmaß der Zensur und Überwachung.
