We had a bumper crop of potatoes last year. After freezing them (as fries, casseroles, etc), canning some, and giving over 200 lbs away, we needed a reliable way to store the rest. The goal was to have enough potatoes stored to take us through to the next harvest…and possibly never to have to buy potatoes again. We didn’t have a basement or root cellar (or time/funds to build a full-blown root cellar), so we had to get creative. Clyde remembered his dad talking about burying old chest freezers for overwintering vegetables and we decided to give it a try. His sister’s freezer had recently died and so was recruited for the job.

Ca 10 Arbeitsstunden und 50 € ( Spielsand, Zement, Abgasrohr usw.), der Rest des Materials hatte ich da oder habs geschenkt bekommen. Danke !

Unterdessen kündigt eine Großbank die Beschränkung von Automaten-Abhebungen auf 260 Euro an.
Das war eine nette Überraschung, im heutigen Standard von der „Obststadt Wiener Neustadt“ zu erfahren. Das Projekt hat bereits 70 Obstbäume für die Allgemeinheit gepflanzt und will bis zum Jahresende auf 400 kommen. Für einen Beitrag von 50 Euro kann mensch Baumpate werden.
Gepflanzt wird nur mit Genehmigung und da sind die Wiener NeustädterInnen glücklich dran, diese auch zu bekommen. Wir hoffen jetzt natürlich, dass sich die Stadt Wien und vor allem die etwas zaghaften Stadtgartenbeamten an ihrer kleinen Schwester diesbezüglich ein Beispiel nehmen. 
Interessant waren auch die Postings im Standard.
Zum einen, weil da einige andere Obst-Ressourcen genannt wurden: 100 alte Apfelbäume unterhalb des Freinberg (Nähe Arboretum) in Linz oder „In Unterwart gibt’s das schon lang“.
Zum weiteren, weil das Thema Nutzung-Übernutzung diskutiert und sogar „die Tragik der Allmende“ erwähnt wurde. Etliche…

SoliLa (Solidarisch Landwirtschaften) ist seit der Räumung in
Jedlersdorf im April 2012 landlos.
SoliLa steht aber weiterhin für die Aneigung der Lebensmittelproduktion, bedürfnissorientiert, lokal,
antikapitalistisch. Es soll ein gemeinschaftlich-nachbarschaftliches
Projekt sein, in dem lokal Gemüse angebaut wird, durch das grün- und
landwirtschaftliche Flächen in der Stadt erhalten werden, und das ein
emanzipatorischer Ort sein möchte, das den Austausch und die Weitergabe
von dissidentem Wissen ermöglicht und allen Menschen offen steht, die
sich aktiv an diesem Projekt beteiligen möchten. Wir werden den 17.
April, den Tag des kleinbäuerlichen Widerstands, auch in dieser Saison
wieder nutzen um uns aktiv Zugang zu Land zu verschaffen, der uns als
selbstorganisiertes Projekt durch Kapitalinteressen, Landspekulation und
eine elitäre Stadtgestaltung verunmöglicht werden soll.
Resistance is fertile! Solidarisch landwirtschaften und leben jetzt!
Kommt mit uns feiern und dann aufs Feld!

Perhaps the hardiest of all garden crops, parsnips don’t develop their sweet, nutty flavor until after enduring frosts and cold weather in fall. Can be overwintered for harvest as soon as soil thaws in spring.
Right before we went on vacation, we started a project that will be fun for the boys if it works out as planned. We tied some poles together, laced them up with twine, and dug out a trench from our yard around the base of the thing.
We planted pole bean seeds in the little trench. The intention is that the pole beans will climb the tepee and completely cover it, making a little tent for the boys to not only play in, but also snack in, straight from the garden!
