Obige Zitate sind echt, das Buch ist echt und „Edelfeder” Helmut A. Gansterer hat vermutlich auch schon früher nicht viel in den Spiegel schauen mögen. “Erwin Pröll, Profil eines Politikers” ist im Styria Verlag des Katholischen Preßvereins erschienen und wiegt 676 Gramm.

Am rechten Rand des politischen Spektrums tut sich was – am Wochenende traf sich die “Neue Rechte” im bürgerlichen Wilmersdorf zu einem Kongress. Was sie eint ist der Glaube, dass Eurokrise, Sarrazinbegeisterung und Islamängste einen idealen Ausgangspunkt bilden, die rechte Sache voran zu bringen. Dabei scheint selbst der Terror des NSU die Neue Rechte nicht wirklich zu irritieren.

Einladung zur Blogparade: #refugeecamp | ~ andreame

Seit mehr als 2 Monaten gibt es selbstorganisierte Proteste von AsylwerberInnen in Österreich, meines Wissens erstmals in dieser Form in Österreich. Es geht dabei darum grundlegende strukturelle Veränderungen im Asylsystem zu erreichen. Es geht um Menschenrechte! Derzeit sind 45 Refugees in der Wiener Votivkirche im Hungerstreik, der extremsten Form gewaltfreien Protests.
Die Refugees können jede Form von medialer Aufmerksamkeit und Solidarität brauchen. Dazu kann die Blogosphäre etwas beitragen:
Manche Bloggerinnen und Blogger haben das #refugeecamp schon zum Thema gemacht, manche haben das noch nicht getan. Ich möchte darum zu einer Blogparade einladen – ganz besonders jene BloggerInnen, die das Thema noch nicht aufgegriffen haben – auch wenn sich Dein Blog normalerweise mit ganz anderen Themen beschäftigt und Du vielleicht (wie ich) nicht in Wien bist. Wer über das Thema schon gebloggt hat, kann es aber gerne nochmal tun und ist genauso herzlich eingeladen, bei der Blogparade mit dabei zu sein.
Was ist eine Blogparade?
In einem Blog wird dazu eingeladen (hiermit passiert). Wer sich beteiligen will, schreibt im eigenen Blog zum Thema und informiert via Trackback oder einem Kommentar im Ausgangsbeitrag darüber. Weitere Verbreitung via Social Networks ist natürlich auch gewünscht! Im einladenden Blog gibt es eine abschließende Zusammenfassung und Übersicht. For more than 2 months, there are self-organized protests by asylum seekers in Austria, to my knowledge for first time in this form in Austria. They want to archieve fundamental structural changes in the asylum system. It’s about human rights! Currently 45 refugees in the Votivkirche in Vienna are in hunger strike, the most extreme form of non-violent protest.
The refugees need every form of media attention and solidarity. The blogosphere can contribute something in this matter:
Some bloggers have already written already about the #refugeecamp, others have not. I would, therefore, like to invite to a blog carnival – especially those bloggers who have not yet taken up the issue – even if your blog is usually busy with other issues and you might not (like me) be in Vienna. Anyone who has blogged about the issue already, can do it again and is as welcome to contribute to the blog carnival.
What is a blog carnival?
A blog invites to the blog carnival (hereby happened). Every blogger who wants to participate blogs on the subject in his_her own blog and informs via trackback or a comment at the starting blog about the contribution. Further spreading via social networks is also required, of course! In the inviting blog there will be a final summary and overview. [More on blog carnival you can find here.]

Genetecists have shown with genetical data that the cultivated carrot germplasm is subdivided between Eastern and Western carrots (Clotault et al. 2010). The black/purple carrots are clustered in the Eastern group, even if three individuals from Middle East show admixture between the two geographical groups. This suggests the black type has an oriental origin, and that gene flows between this type and European carrots may have arisen in Turkey/Syria.

Kenya is on the brink of losing a significant source of its economic lifeline and national heritage and we desperately need your help and continued support if we are to avert it.
It is no secret that Kenya relies heavily on wildlife tourism for economic prosperity; and just as the Egyptians have the pyramids, our national heritage is our wildlife. Besides generating the biggest segment of the annual turnover of Ksh98 billion we get from tourism, wildlife-based tourism is so linked to our economic growth that together with beach tourism, it was identified as one of the six priority sectors in Kenya Vision 2030, the country’s blue-print for long-term development. Further, most tourists come to Kenya with hopes of spotting the “Big 5” –Lion, buffalo, Leopard, Rhino and Elephant.
Unfortunately, we stand to lose this National Heritage if we do not stop, once and for all, the unprecedented, senseless and wanton killing of wild animals –and particularly elephants and rhinos that are targeted for ivory and horn, respectively.
It is now official that we lost as many as 384 elephants last year and 19 the few remaining rhinos. Sadly, the actual numbers of deaths are probably higher as many of the killings go unreported. While poaching is in it-self a brutal crime, it also has far reaching effects on the environment and the economy. If 2 of the Big-5 become extinct, the country’s tourism industry will be severely affected and as a result, jobs for the tens of thousands of Kenyans will be no more. This in turn will have a seriously negative impact on Kenya’s economic growth.
Clearly the time has come where we all need to act decisively, swiftly and consistently to put a halt to this. We need to do this now (and not any other time) because the alternative – a world without our national heritage – does not even bear thinking.

Please read the title again. As a veterinary surgeon, I find this title very strange. Why on earth are Beagle dogs being used to see what pharmaceutical drugs do to people? I would certainly never use a parrot to test drugs for horses, so why use dogs (or any other animal) to test human drugs? The short answer is that the law requires it.

Poachers move in quickly using chain saws, machetes, axes and hunting knives, to cut the tusks from elephants, often while they are still alive. They leave the faceless, innocent, sentient being in agonizing pain to die. The poachers will often wipe out an entire elephant family at one time. Many of the elephants are pregnant or are nursing babies. The babies are left traumatized and alone to starve, to die of exposure or to be fed upon by the lions.
Rangers by hundreds patrol the vast acres of land in Africa where the elephants are constantly on the move.
